A Dram of Pity
But even more shocking was the transformation
in his eyes: the bland, blue pupils had now become
dazzling, luminous orbs; they seemed to project
light across the intervening space like the rays of
a lantern on a warm summer evening.

Mike Gray
Remember the Darkness
My impression of having entered a living body was
reinforced by the gleaming ropy traces of centuries
of seepage down the limestone walls. In some places
pink fans of calcite hung on the wall like organs.

Thomas Lera
A History of the Southern Literary Messenger
I always enjoyed showing visitors some of the furniture
in the museum that came from the SLM office. . . . I

Mark Powers

A Field Guide to 20th-Century Literature
1951-1970: Writers discover that sex is a fact of life and

the sex scene is instituted as law and, within 20 years,
universally enforced.

Newt Gurney
The Falport Praesidia
The turnings are certainly labyrinthine in their prospects if
not in their arrangements.  Even long-standing members
are not above getting lost.  And for the uninitiated guest,
escape is commonly had only by reference to windows.

Newt Gurney
Review: A Visual History of the English Bible
But the revolution in English translation started with John
Wycliffe.  A Catholic priest accused and condemned as
a heretic, accusing the priesthood of heresy in turn, he worked
with others to produce a full translation of the Bible in English
at a time when it was forbidden to do so.
